Martin and Kaitlyn ran into a problem today. It has nothing to do with them as a couple. It’s a family matter for Martin. No, it doesn’t have anything to do with his ex-wife Kaori either; she’s living a peaceful and happy life with her children in San Sequoia.

This is about James, a distant cousin of Martin’s who just arrived in Dowon.

James showed up unexpectedly at Martin’s house, explaining that he still couldn’t find a job or a place to stay, so he came to ask if he could live with him until he found a job.

Martin knows that “a job” for James means being a professional hacker 24/7. A line of work that doesn’t sit well with Martin’s values and reputation as a former police officer.

James: Seriously, I wouldn’t be staying long, just until I gather some money.
Martin: How? By hacking computers?
James: Of course not. I have an interview to work with a respectable businesswoman in this city.
Martin: Really? Please, James…

Kaitlyn: Oh, come on, Marty, give him a chance. He’s family and has nowhere else to go.
Martin: You’re going to defend him when you don’t even know him?
James: Hey, guys, I don’t want to cause you any trouble, I can check into a hotel.
Kaitlyn: Oh, no, not at all… Marty?

But of course James was going to play the victim card! And naturally, Kaitlyn was going to take his side. No doubt they’ll get along both of them being little manipulators, with one difference: Martin doesn’t believe a word James says, but he adores Kaitlyn, and her opinion weighs heavily on him, so…
Martin: Uh, James, will you excuse us? Kait and I need to discuss some things in private.
James: Sure, go ahead, I’ll wait somewhere else.

James steps out of the kitchen to give Martin and Kaitlyn some space, but he keeps his ears open.
Martin: Are you serious, Kait?
Kaitlyn: Mart, he’s your cousin. Are you going to kick him out into the cold?

Yeah, James and Kaitlyn have just met, and she’s already his ally. That’s great!

Kaitlyn’s natural sympathy for James and her influence over Martin must be quite strong, cause within minutes, Martin agreed to let him stay, although he isn’t quite sure if it was his best decision.

Martin: Do you really think it was a good call to let my cousin stay?
Kaitlyn: Of course it was. Don’t worry, he has an interview today with that rich woman from Dowon Heights.
Martin: Yeah, for what kind of job? Knowing him, I’m guessing it won’t be anything good.
Kaitlyn: Chill out, Mart. You want him to leave soon, right? Well, let him get a job, whatever it is.

A few hours later, and luckily for Martin, James landed his dream job with Soojin Park, one of Dowon’s wealthiest women and CEO a prominent company, who offered him a position as “lead developer” (whatever that entails) and, additionally, as her personal bodyguard.

Soojin: All right, James, you’re hired. I guess I don’t need to tell you that everything you do here is strictly confidential.
James: Of course not, ma’am, I understand.
Soojin: I’m glad, because you’ll be signing a document stating that. Now go to your post and stay there unless I call you.
James: Yes, ma’am.
Soojin: Boss. The word you want is Boss. That’s how you call me from now on, anytime, anywhere.
James: Of course, boss.

Well, this is an unusual job, but it’s James’ area of expertise. The best part is, he won’t be bothering Martin and Kaitlyn anymore, cause now he’s got his own bedroom in Soojin Park’s penthouse!

It’s his first day on the job. James has always liked to dress well, so, of course, he’ll spend some time doing some serious online shopping. With the salary he’ll be earning now, he can definitely afford it!

That and a few other little indulgences too!

Ready to put in his hours as a bodyguard. It’s a job that would suit Martin better, given his security experience, but James has some other skills that come in handy in these situations.

Having lunch with the boss and listening to her instructions for the day.

Watching over the territory from above.

Time for a little nap. Hopefully the boss won’t catch him sleeping on the job!

His time outdoors is over; he has to go back to his desk job.

It’s here on the computer where James really works his magic.

At night, he returns to his guard post.

James knows that Martin probably won’t like hearing what his new job consists of, so he’ll just tell him that he’s Mrs. Park’s personal assistant. 😉
Note: James went through many transformations before settling on his final look, so now, as a bonus, (and because I really don’t know where else to post all these pics), here are some of his many different looks:

Fun fact: I created James before I created Martin. James Cooper was a name I came up with, which reminded me that I had a character in The Sims 4 whose last name was also Cooper, so that’s how I decided to create Martin in Inzoi. But James came first.

Believe it or not, this was the first photo of James, ever.

At first, I really wanted James to look like Martin because they shared their last name. My idea was for them to be brothers, but I could never get them to look much alike, so I ended up deciding they would just be cousins. Actually, I struggled a lot because James didn’t look the same in game as he did in CAZ, which wasn’t the case with Martin. I don’t know why it was so hard with James. To this day, he still looks weird in some photos, which is why I keep changing his look.

After many, many changes that took days, this is what James currently looks like in CAZ.

And this is how he looks in game. He’s improved a bit, but there’s still a big difference between CAZ and in game. Personally, I prefer the cool tones in CAZ. In game, I’d prefer a balance between warm and cool tones like we had in the beta engine, a balance I haven’t seen since the update.

Also, for some reason, even though I originally wanted James to have black hair, I could never get his hair to look black or even dark brown in game, like it does in CAZ, where his hair looks much darker. I don’t know if it’s a problem with the custom hair, or if it’s a general Inzoi color issue. Anyway, to me, James is still a very cute guy in game.

In the end, I liked how he turned out, though I feel like he still needs some minor tweaks. Anyway, I don’t think he’ll ever look exactly like he does in CAZ, no matter what I do. I’ve managed to get some characters to look that way, but not James. Still, I’m happy with the result. Mind you, he’s not one of my main characters, so this will probably be the only post dedicated to him alone. Sorry for going outside the script, but I’ve wanted to introduce you to James for a while now, since we’ll be seeing him from time to time in Martin and Kaitlyn’s story. Sorry for the photo spam, too, and thanks for reading this far.
