AURORA SKIES, 68 VELKOMINN RD, AROUND 4 AM

โRob? What was that all about? Rob, are you there?โ

โAre you okay, buddy? Robin, please, talk to me!โ Dustin cried on the phone, but he didn’t get any response.

“Oh my God, Robby, noโฆ”, Ann whispered through her tears, unable to hear the voice coming from the phone lying two floors down in the courtyard. The closed window, the distance and the shock she was in prevented her from doing so.

At the same time, only a block away, Juliette rushed to her window, attracted by the strange sounds coming from across the street.
โWhat the…?โ

She couldn’t finish the question, she became speechless as she saw an oblong-shaped object, followed by a brilliant and colorful trail, fly whizzing past her window.

“What the hell is that?” She gasped. But before her brain could register or give a name to what she had just seen, the flying object sped away and disappeared into the horizon with a bloodcurdling roar…
SAME TIME AT THE SHEN HEADQUARTERS

“Damn, the call ended…”, Dustin sighed, staring at his phone screen. “I’ll dial again, something strange is going on over there, I must know what it is.โ

He was about to dial Robin’s number again, when a loud noise, like the whirring of a giant turbine, was heard outside, and brightly colored lights illuminated the room.

Whatever was producing that deafening noise flew over his room making the glass shake and continued on to the backyard. Dustin put his phone down, looked out the window and stood stunned for an instant.
“Holly, sh*t”.

Overcoming his stupor, he ran towards the studio, trying to catch up with the bright and loud flying object.

The thunderous noise, along with the sound of the bedroom door swinging open, finally woke up Judith.
“Dust?” she called him, sitting up.

โDust, what was that sound?โ she asked, following him to the studio.
Dustin could not answer, he was paralyzed staring out the window. Everything out there seemed calm for a second, but then suddenlyโฆ

The same object that had flown in front of Juliette’s window was there spinning and emitting intense, blinding lights in front of Dustin and Judith’s incredulous eyes.

โWhat the fuck is that?โ Dustin exclaimed.
โOh, noโฆโ Judith whispered.
For a second they felt as if the flying artifact was going to break through the glass and crash into them, but then, as abruptly as it had emerged, it sped away without a trace.

โDid you see that, Jud, did you?โ Dustin asked, turning to Judith, with a mix of fear and excitement.
“Yes. I did.”
โWhat the hell was it?โ
โYou don’t wanna know.โ
NOT FAR FROM THERE, AT THE SHEN’S HOME…

โWere you able to see it?โ
“No, it was too fast. All I could see was its wake; it was very bright.โ

โWhat do you think could have been?โ
โI don’t know, probably an aircraft.โ
“‘An aircraft? Come on, Dyl, I know what those look like, this definitely wasn’t one.โ
“What do you think it was then, an alien ship?”

โWell, that did not seem from this worldโ.
โOkay, maybe it was, butโฆโ
โMaybe we should call the kids and ask if they saw it too?โ
โUh, I donโt think thatโs a good idea. See, it was probably nothing.โ
โBut what if it was? What if this Bjornโs alien friend decided to phone home and organize an attack on Aurora?
Dylan struggled hard not to scoff. โAn attack? By Sopeha? Karen, pleaseโฆโ

“Why would she do such a thing?”, he added. “On the contrary, she offered to help us with the whole Lunar Lakes thing.
“What if she changed his mind? Or if her ‘boss’ ordered her to destroy us and kidnap Robin?โ
โWow, dear, you do have an imagination… See, if that were the case and aliens decided to attack us, I’m sure our authorities would not stand idly by. Come on, let Dusty and Jul sleep in peace, we’ll call them as soon as it’s light. It won’t be long anyway.โ
โAh, okay.โ Karen sighed.
MEANWHILE, ON VELKOMINN RD

โWhat could that have been? Planes do not fly that low or emit that kind of light. Iโd say it was a rocket, but why would it be flying over Aurora Skies at this hour? Maybe itโs nothing, but Robโs out there on the street, Iโd better call him to see if heโs okay.โ

Juliette dialed quickly and waited on the line.
“Come on pick up, pick upโฆ” she whispered, pressing the phone to her ear, but the dial tone kept ringing, unanswered.

“This can’t be. Maybe he’s talking to Dust? Well, I’ll send him a message…
Rob, I just saw something strange over Velkominn Rd. I don’t know what it was, but I’m worried about you. Please get back to me when you can, so I know you’re safe,” she typed, and hit the send button.
BACK AT THE SHEN HEADQUARTERS

โShit, my keys, I almost forgot them!โ Dustin exclaimed, storming back into the bedroom, already dressed into his outdoor clothes. He seemed eager to leave, which set off the alarms for Judith.

โDust, what do you think you’re doing?โ she inquired.
โGrabbing my car keys to go get Robin. I told him I’d pick him up at his place.”
โI see, but does it have to be right now?โ
โYes, he’s been waiting for me for a while. So, excuse me, but I must leave now.โ

โDust, wait! Are you crazy? Have you forgotten what you just saw?”
โNo, that’s why I need to pick up Robin right away.โ
โYou can’t go out now, it could be dangerous!โ
โSorry, but I can’t leave Robin at the mercy of whatever that thing is.โ
โThen why don’t you just call him and tell him to wait until daylight?โ

โHe’s not answering his phone, and I won’t make him wait all night out on the street.”.
โWhat do you mean ‘out on the street’?
โRob asked his wife for a divorce, she was upset and kicked him out. While we were talking on the phone, he saw something fly into his backyard. There were a lot of weird noises, we lost connection and never heard from him since.โ
Judith went pale. โYou think that thing got there first?โ
โWe won’t know for sure until I get there.โ

While Judith and Dustin discussed whether or not he should go out, Juliette kept waiting for some response from Rob to no avail.
โOkay, maybe he just ran out of battery; or maybe he’s with Dust by now. That’s it, I’ll call Dust. I just hope he does answer his phone.โ

โThat must be himโฆ Rob?โ Dustin exclaimed pressing the answer button at the first ring of his phone.
โNo, sorry, itโs me, Juliette.โ
โAh, Julโฆ How are you?โ Dustin replied in disappointment.

โSo, Robinโs not with you,โ she sighed, equally disheartened. Dustin let out a sigh too.
โNo, but I spoke to him quite a while ago”.
โAnd? Was he okay?โ
โI donโt know”.
“What do you mean you do know?”
“Something unusual was going on in his backyard…”

“He said something about a flying object, he put my call on hold, and he went to check it out, after that I heard some strange noises, and then the connection was lost”.
โW-What kind of noises?โ
“It was like a turbine, mixed with some kind of musical sounds. I heard the same outside my place minutes ago, and this huge, glowing thing appeared at my window”.
“So you saw it too?”
“Yes, did you?”

โYes. It was very big, round, with flashing-colored lights at the bottom, and it moved at very high speed.โ
“That’s exactly what I saw. It was freaking awesome! It looked like something out of a science fiction movie.”
“Well, I didn’t find it awesome, but rather terrifying. Something very strange is going on out there, Dusty, that’s why I need to know exactly where Robin is, and if he’s okay.โ

โDonโt worry, Iโm heading there right now. Please stay home until we know what the hell is going onโ.
โI will, but please let me know as soon as both you and Rob are safe at home.โ
โOf course. Youโll be the first one I call.โ

โPromise me, Dustin, and promise as well that you wonโt return home without Robin.โ
โI promise. And, sis, take it easy, okay? Iโm sure heโs fine.โ
โI hope so, Dust. Cause I donโt like any of this, I donโt like it at all.โ

That was awesome! I loved seeing the perspective from everyone who saw the bright lights and flying object. Everyone flying into action, checking on everyone to make sure they are safe. I felt the tenseness of the situation. Poor Robyn!
