Unexpected Return

It’s the next day; Brandi woke up early and full of energy. Luckily, Kendall is there to give her breakfast and play with her.

Tyron has also gotten up and is thinking about joining them when his phone starts ringing.

Tyron: I hope it’s Kayla, telling me she’s coming back.

Tyron rushes to answer and… Surprise, surprise, the voice on the other end is not Kayla’s.
Katie: Tyron?
After seconds of absolute shock…
Tyron: K-Katie?
Katie: Yes, it’s me.

Tyron: (To himself) Oh, my God.
Katie: Ty? Are you still there?
Tyron: Yes, yes, I’m here.
Katie: Thank goodness, I thought you’d hung up.

Tyron: Katie, excuse me for asking, but… what are you doing?
Katie: Well, I think we have some unfinished business.
Tyron: Do we?

Katie: Ty, please. Don’t you remember? —Hidden Springs, my birthday?
Tyron: Yes. I remember nothing happened, and I also remember making things very clear. Something between us will never be possible, Katie.
Katie: Yeah, you made that very clear. But it could have been nice, I mean, you and me.

Tyron: Katie, listen, I do care for you, but you deserve better. I’m not your best option, I just got divorced; besides, I already have a girlfriend.
Katie: I know, but she’s not in Starlight Shores now, and I am.
Tyron: Wait, you’re in Starlight…?

Katie: Yep, I just arrived; I’m here to stay and will be visiting you very soon.
Tyron: How? I mean, you don’t even know where I live.
Katie: Well, someone in Hidden Springs was kind enough to give me your address.
Tyron: Well, I don’t think it’s a good idea.
Katie: Why not? It might be fun.

Tyron: Don’t you get it, Katie? I’m in a relationship with Kayla. I’ve already had a bad marriage; I’m not going to ruin this too. Plus, I don’t want any problems with… Tell me, do your parents even know you’re here?

Katie: No. I told them I had accepted their offer to enroll me in college. They think I left for campus, but I came to Starlight Shores instead. I rented a small place, and I may get a job soon.

Katie: By the way, I have an interview at the Binder Clips Center in half an hour. I can’t be late, so I have to go now.
Tyron: Katie, please hear me out, you can’t…
Katie: See you soon, Ty.
Katie hung up before Tyron could say anything else.

His heart was beating a mile a minute. Hearing Katie’s voice reminded him of the last time they had met in Hidden Springs. He had just gotten divorced. Katie had finally become a young and she wanted to start something with him, but Tyron was already in a relationship with Kayla. Plus, he still thought Katie was too young for him, so it was a big no, which made Katie so sad and angry that she didn’t speak to him again for the rest of his time in Hidden Springs.

Last thing he had heard was she wanted nothing to do with him, but now she seemed to have forgotten her anger and had lied to her parents to come to Starlight Shores looking for him. Which could only mean one thing: trouble.
Tyron: This is bad. This is very bad. If Katie’s parents find out, I’ll be in big trouble; Terry will surely kill me if he finds out too, and Kayla—this could be the end of us. I have to convince Katie to return with her parents, but how?
