Later that night, Zoe found Lukas in the bathroom giving himself a pep talk.
Zoe: Lukas? What are you doing here, honey? I thought you’d be asleep by now. Are you okay?
Lukas: Of course I’m okay, thanks mom.

Zoe: Are you sure?
Lukas: Yes, mom. I’m perfectly fine, in fact I’ve never been better.
Zoe: ¿Really?
Lukas: Yeah!

Like two seconds later…
Lukas: No, I’m not.
Zoe: Oh, honey. I knew it. Did you talk to Lucas Munch?
Lukas: Yes, I did.
Zoe: And how did it go?

Lukas: It didn’t go well.
Zoe: Aw, seriously? Why?
Lukas: Well, I told him how I felt about him, like you guys advised me. He took it pretty well, he didn’t get mad at me or ended our friendship, but… long story short, he told me that he only loved me as a friend, that he liked girls, and reaffirmed his crush on Kennedy.

Zoe: Well, that all sucks, but you already knew about that last one.
Lukas: I knew that, yes, but still, I don’t get it. Why Lukas holds on to Kennedy, knowing that the one she likes is Orange Bailey-Moon?

Lukas: Moreover, why do I hold on to Lucas? He will never reciprocate, that’s crystal clear! Ugh, why did I have to tell him? I just made the biggest fool of myself!
Zoe: Relax, honey, telling someone how you feel about them is never making a fool of yourself, it’s just being honest.

Zoe: Now, if Lucas doesn’t understand that, then he’s not worth it.
Lukas: No, he understood. And he was so nice to me, I even gave him the keys to our house. He was so excited, he told me that we’d stay friends forever, but… it’s just I don’t know how I’ll be able to be around him after this.
Zoe: Aw, sweetie, I wish there was something I could do for you.

Lukas: I-I don’t think you could do anything at this point. I really appreciate your concern, but – could you leave me alone for a moment, please, Mom?
Zoe: Of course, honey. I’ll be around if you need me.
Lukas: Thank you.
Zoe’s mom heart is crushed. It hurts her to see Lukas like this, and she shares his grief, but…

She can’t help thinking about Allan too. Was it like this for him when he had to make his decision between her and Daisuke? Worse, will they have to go through the same thing again someday, with some other guy? She hopes not, but you never know… For now, she wishes with all her might that Lukas will find true love soon and put this behind him. She doesn’t see how, though, with him and Lucas about to go off to college together. So many things could happen there!
