As soon as Sarah and Lauri take their places at the table, a sudden silence falls between Dale and Kelly.

Sarah: Hey, you don’t have to change the subject, I guess I know what you were talking about.
Kelly: Oh yeah? And what were we talking about?
Sarah: Riley Woods, and her surprise visit to Lucky Palms.
Dale startles a little, Kelly hurries to react:

Kelly: What? How did you find out?
Sarah: She sent me a text the other night. “Greetings from Lucky Palms,” with a picture of her outside the doors of that seedy casino – what’s it called?
Dale: The Lucky Simoleon.
Sarah: Sure. A very original name.

Kelly: So, she sent you a text, huh? I guess she told you what the heck she went there to do, too.
Sarah: As far as I know, to ask ‘Terry the Terrible’ for a job, since her father left her penniless after their dispute.
Dale: So she told you about their quarrel. Then you must also know about that secret condition her father put on her to hand over her inheritance.
Sarah: Yeah, I know about that too, but I can’t tell you.
Kelly: Why not, don’t you trust us, not even Dale?
Sarah: I trust you, guys, but that secret belongs to Riley, it’s not my place to reveal it.

Kelly: But you were going to tell Dale anyway, last trimester!
Sarah: Yeah, and I’m glad I didn’t. It was for the best, believe me, you wouldn’t have liked it, especially you.
Kelly: So, it has to do with me?
Sarah: Indirectly, yes.
Kelly: What is that supposed to mean?
Sarah: Means it has to do with Dale, therefore it affects you. And that’s all I will say, my lips are sealed now.
Dale: Fine. Because now I don’t want to know.
Kelly: It’s not fine, I do want to know!

Lauri: Wait a minute… *To Sarah* Is this by any chance about what you told me earlier, that Mr. Woods didn’t approve of you and Riley’s relationship cause he wanted her to forcefully marry a guy?
Sarah signals Lauri to cut it off, but she doesn’t get it and goes ahead.
Lauri: Of course! That must have been the condition for Riley to get her money. She had to marry a guy!
Kelly: Mr. Woods didn’t approve of Sarah and Riley?
Dale: He wanted to force her to marry a guy?
Sarah: *Rolls eyes*. Yes, and yes. *Mumbles* So much for best friends keeping each other’s secrets.

Lauri isn’t able to listen to Sarah’s remark, and she continues:
Lauri: Riley probably considered the idea, to be able to collect her money, that’s why she went after Dale, but then she had second thoughts, cause she realized she loved Sarah, so she stood up to her dad, told him she’d never marry a guy, and that’s why they fell out. You see? It wasn’t too hard to connect the dots.
Now it’s Sarah who almost chokes on her food – Dale and Kelly remain deathly quiet.
Lauri: Oops, did I say something I shouldn’t? Never mind, it was just a theory.

Sarah: A theory based on the truth. The downsides of trusting secrets to cute girls who are also geniuses.
Dale: Yeah, well, I’ve heard enough.
Kelly: Me too.
Dale and Kelly get up from the table at the same time. He looks embarrassed; she has a certain air of accomplishment on her face.
Kelly: *To herself* If the ‘genius girl’ theory is true (and from Sarah’s attitude it apparently is), Riley never cared for Dale, she just wanted to get him to collect her father’s money, that’s good news for me, though perhaps not so good for my poor boyfriend’s ego.

Once Sara and Lauri are left alone at the table…
Lauri: Sarah, I’m really sorry, I never meant to be indiscreet, it was just a guess, I never thought that could be what actually happened.
Sarah: It was – partially.
Lauri: Partially? So, there’s more?
Sarah: Lauri, just forget it, okay?
Lauri: Okay. I take it after this you won’t trust me with anything anymore.
Sarah: It’s not that, I just don’t want to talk about it, okay?
Lauri: Sure, I understand it must still hurt.
Sarah: It hurt at the time; it just doesn’t matter now. At least I’m glad Riley finally stood up for herself. A bit late, mind you. *Sighs* If only she had done so when we were still together.

Lauri: Well, it’s never too late, maybe you two could still…
Sarah: Nope, I’m over her now, I have no intention of going back there. I’m sorry for Dale, though, it must be upsetting to find out you were being used. That’s why I ended not telling him anything that one time. And that was just the tip of the iceberg of the evil plans Riley had to get Dale to marry her.
Lauri: And here I am coming up with theories. Seriously, I’m sorry.
Sarah: Easy, girl, it’s no big deal. Good news is that Kelly won’t have to worry about Riley’s stalking Dale anymore.
Lauri: You think so? From what I gather, Riley did like Dale a lot.

Kelly slows down in order to hear Sarah’s reply.
Sarah: No, she didn’t. Riley is not into boys, she said she did, but it was all a pose to lure Cho into her trap. Thank God her trickery didn’t work with him.
Lauri: But she blew up your relationship in the process.
Sarah: Yeah, well, that’s beside the point now.
After hearing this, Kelly walks away. Her impressions were true, Riley never cared about Dale. Victory? Not yet. Who knows what plans that harpy has appearing in Lucky Palms. And teaming up with Terry no less! Nobody believes she’ll give up her father’s money just like that and get a job, they’ll have to keep a close eye on her.
