Aurora Skies, the Shen household, almost 7 am

The Shens settled into the living room, facing cups of coffee that Karen had prepared, but which no one touched. When everyone was sitting down, though not entirely calm, Juliette was the one to break the silence.

“Well, Mom, speak now, what’s wrong with Robin’s DNA?”
Karen glanced sideways at Dylan and took a deep breath.
“Okay,” she replied.

“You see, after thoroughly and repeatedly analyzing Robin’s DNA sample, I was able to conclude that he’s… Well, he’s 60 percent human and 40 percent alien.”
“What??” Juliette gasped.

“What?” Dustin repeated. “Robin is alien?”
“A-are you sure? Couldn’t there have been a mistake?” Juliette followed.

“No mistake here, guys, like your mother just said, she repeated the test several times to verify it. The result was always the same: Robin is half human and half alien.” Dylan explained.

“But that is absurd. How could he be… How—how is that even possible?” Juliette stumbled over her words.

“He got his alien DNA from his father, Douglas Crane, who is also 40% alien,” Dylan replied.

“And his mother, Sylvie Girard, is 100% human, which is why Robin isn’t entirely alien,” Karen pointed out.

“Wait, you just said that Rob’s father is 40% alien, and his mother is human. Present tense. Are you implying Robin’s parents are alive? Is that what the famous document on the flash drive said?”, Dustin asked.

“That’s right”, Dylan answered. “They currently live in a place called Lunar Lakes”.
“Lunar Lakes, huh? Never heard of it,” Dustin reacted.
“Of course not, because Lunar Lakes isn’t here on Earth, but on… well, the Moon”, Dylan cleared up.

“The Moon? The actual Moon?” Logan chimed in at last.
“Yes, our Moon”, Karen reaffirmed.
“Interesting”, Dustin mumbled.

“Does the document say why they’ve been living there or why they never tried to contact Robin?”, he asked.
“No, nothing about that. But maybe we’ll find out soon,” Dylan replied, Dustin sighed.
“Well, so there’s no doubt about it, Rob is 40% alien thanks to his father…

“Hence the odd things that were happening to him, such as self-healing and other stuff he mentions in his journal. Those are probably alien powers, not a mutation caused by his accident in the portal as I thought,” he mused.

“Well, I’d kill to have at least one of those powers!” Logan blurted out.
“Yeah, me too.” Dustin agreed with equal fascination.

Realizing that she had been very quiet, Karen turned to Juliette.
“Jul? Aren’t you going to say anything, dear?” she asked.
“You’re okay, sweetheart?” Dylan asked in turn.

Juliette shifted position on the sofa, struggling to hold back the tears that had begun to well up in her eyes.
“Well,” she mumbled, “Like Dad said at the beginning, this is something hard to take in, but… I can’t say I’m surprised.

“Ever since I took Rob’s DNA sample, I noticed something odd, I just couldn’t put my finger on it.”
Then, turning around to look at both her mom and dad:

“Does Robin already know all this? He does, right? You told him about his DNA and his parents, didn’t you?” she asked.
Karen flushed. “Uh, well…”
“Not yet,” Dylan stepped in.

“What?” Dustin startled. “Are you saying Robin didn’t know anything about this?”

“Good God, Mom, why?” Juliette burst out. “Don’t you think it was important for him to know? This was critical information; maybe if he had known, none of this would have happened to him in the first place.”

“You’re absolutely right, dear, it was our mistake,” Dylan admitted.
“At the time, we thought it was safer to wait.” Karen added.
“Wait for what, Mom? For those people to come take him away?”

“Well, maybe they didn’t take him, maybe he phoned home cause he wanted to be with them.”
“Karen…” Dylan protested.

“He phoned home? You mean like the E.T. movie?” Logan laughed.

Dustin, on the other hand, didn’t find it funny.
“Mom, please, this isn’t a movie,” he snapped. “Plus, why would Rob do something like that if he didn’t know about his parents, or that he was alien for that matter?”

“If he knew, he would’ve told me, and he would never have left without saying goodbye,” Juliette wept.
“We don’t know, maybe he was afraid to tell you thinking you would reject him,” suggested Karen.
“Karen, please stop,” Dylan grumbled.

“Reject him?” Juliette snapped. “For God’s sake, Mom, I love him. I have a child with him. None of what I know now will change what I feel for him. So if you’re planning to take me away from him, I’m telling you right now, that’s not gonna happen!” she exclaimed through her tears.

“Calm down, sweetheart,” Dylan intervened, “We would never think of taking you away from Robin.”
“That’s right, he’s Rowie’s father after all, that makes him family”.
“Please forgive us if we’ve upset you in any way,” Dylan added.

“I’m truly sorry, honey, I didn’t mean to hurt you,” Karen apologized.
“No. You forgive me,” Juliette replied. “I’m not trying to blame you, I just want Robin back, that’s all.”

“It’s okay, dear, we understand perfectly,” Karen replied.
“Thank you, Mom, thank you both. And again, forgive me, I’m just so scared. I don’t want anything bad to happen to Rob.”
“Don’t worry, sweetheart, rest assured we’ll do everything in our power to find him and bring him back home safely”, Dylan added.

Her father’s words did not seem to comfort Juliette; on the contrary, they made her burst into tears.
“I’m sorry, give me a minute, okay?” she asked.
“Sure, honey, take all the time you need,” Dylan replied.
“Would you like me to bring you some tea or something?” Karen offered.

“No, thank you” Juliette answered, standing up. “I think I’ll go outside for a while. I need a break.”

“You okay, sis? Do you want me to go with you?”, Dustin asked.

“Thank you, Dusty, that won’t be necessary. I’ll be fine, I just need some time out,” Juliette replied tearfully, and with that she hurried out of the living room.

Dustin and Logan looked at each other, feeling useless at the situation. Dylan and Karen exchanged glances too, clearly concerned but somehow relieved. It hurt them to see Juliette like this, but at least she and the boys now knew the truth. Or most of it.
